What to Expect on Your Beauty School Tour

So, you’ve decided to enroll in beauty school – that’s fantastic! Learning a valuable skill like esthetics or cosmetology can put you on the path towards a successful career. But your first step is to complete the training program at a state-approved institution. Before you submit any applications, it is highly recommended that you schedule a beauty school tour of the campus.

Most cosmetology schools offer free tours to future applicants to show them around. This will help you get a feel for the place and see it in person.

You must enroll in a beauty school that is a good match for you. One of the leading reasons people did not complete their beauty school training was because they felt “ill-prepared” and didn’t know what to expect from the program.

Scheduling a tour of a beauty school before you start training will help you feel far more prepared for what’s ahead of you. Here’s what to expect and what to do during your beauty school tour:

1.    Come Prepared!

There are some things you’ll want to bring along on your tour. First, chances are that you will be doing quite a bit of walking, so wear comfortable clothes and shoes. While you don’t need to be dressed up, avoid unprofessional or extremely casual clothes like sweatpants. You want to make a good impression!

It may be useful to bring along a notebook and pen to take down any notes or questions you have during your tour. You might even want to write out some questions ahead of time so you’ll have them on hand to ask your tour guide, such as:

  • How many students are in each class?
  • What are the class schedules like?
  • Do you offer full-time, part-time, or night classes?
  • What does a typical day look like for students?

The tour guide may give you some paperwork and pamphlets during the tour, so bring a folder, backpack, or bag to store them in.

Finally, come prepared to submit your application. Most beauty schools will let you fill out the application on campus after the tour is completed. You will need some forms of ID to get started, so it is wise to bring along a photo ID, birth certificate, social security card, and high school or GED diploma just in case.

2.    You’ll Get to Explore All Parts of the Campus

During this tour, you will not only get to see the classrooms, but also the areas for students like lounges, breakroom, and most importantly the student salon. This is where beauty school students get to practice their skills with real clients during their training.

Be sure to ask about all of the features the school offers for their training purposes. Some campuses have study areas or provide practice equipment for students to use outside of normal class hours. Take note of other factors, such as the size of the classrooms and the location. These could be quite impactful on your learning experience!

When coming to our campus, you’ll also get the opportunity to meet some of our current students and see them in action. This is so you’ll get a feel for our school and see if we’re the right fit for you!

3.    Be Sure to Connect with Future Instructors

Perhaps one of the most important things to do during a beauty school tour is meet the instructors face-to-face. While you won’t get to meet everybody, you should have the chance to talk to some of the faculty during your tour.

Be sure to ask them any questions you have about what to expect from their classes. Some beauty schools will even allow you to sit in on a class to observe their teaching style.

4.    Talk to the Financial Aid Department

Make sure to ask your tour guide about the school’s financial aid department and ask to meet with them, if possible. They can help to point you in the right direction for the steps you need to take to pay for your beauty school education.

For instance, they can give you information for your FAFSA application, which is a federal financial aid program. You can also get information about available scholarship opportunities or any grants offered by the school.

5.    Make Sure It’s the Right Fit for You

Completing a beauty school program is a huge accomplishment that takes commitment. You want to be sure that you really love the program and school and that it’s a good fit for you before you apply.

If you are on the fence about which beauty program to enroll in, be sure to ask for information during your tour. For example, at The Salon Professional Academy at San Jose, we offer both cosmetology and esthetics programs, as well as an advanced Make-Up Designory Course. You can learn more about all of these programs during your tour!

Once the tour is complete, reflect on everything that you’ve seen and experienced. Consider logistical factors, like the location of the school and the class times. Will that work with your schedule? It may be helpful to make a list of pros and cons to help you narrow down your options and find the beauty school that’s going to be the best one for you.

Make 2022 Beautiful at The Salon Professional Academy

woman with the text, make 2022 beautiful t the salon professional academy

As 2021 comes to a close and the new year approaches, it’s a great time to think about your goals. What do you want to be doing next year that you weren’t able to accomplish before? Are you ready to finally start pursuing your dreams?

According to the latest stats, 74% of people set a resolution to learn something new, set a personal goal, and better themselves. If you are one of those people, then now is the time to take on the new challenge of starting beauty school and enrolling in a cosmetology or esthetics program!

There are so many reasons why doing this at the beginning of the upcoming new year is a good idea – here are just a few reasons why:

1. You Can Complete Your Training by the End of the Year

In order to graduate from beauty school, you need to complete a set number of training hours according to state laws. The great news is that the state of California is actually lowering the number of training hours for cosmetology schools. Previously, students had to complete 1,600 hours of school, but in January 2022 this will decrease to 1,000 hours.

Compared to a traditional college education, beauty school is far quicker! You can complete the 1,000 hours of a cosmetology program in under a year. Esthetician programs are even shorter, as California requires 600 hours of training.

If you choose to enroll as a full-time student, you can complete either course by the end of 2022! Part-time students may take longer to complete their training, depending on their schedule.

2. The Salon Professional Academy’s Programs Begin in Jan 2022

Many beauty schools have set program start dates – and the good news is that The Salon Professional Academy of San Jose will be starting both the cosmetology and esthetician programs in early January 2022! This also includes programs for part-time and night students.

But there are some things you will need to do before classes begin. First, we highly recommend that you schedule a campus visit to see our school for yourself. We will show you around the classrooms, meet the instructors, and explore the student salon where you will practice your newly-learned skills with real clients!

Your next step will be to send in your application and get in touch with our financial aid department. They can help you find federal aid and grant programs to cover some of the cost of beauty school. You may even qualify for some pretty incredible scholarships!

3. You’ll Be Immersed in a Fun, Creative Environment

Now, not all of us are super excited to go back to school – especially if you’ve recently graduated high school. But beauty school is so fun, you may not even realize how much you’re learning! All of our programs are also heavily focused on specific skills that correlate directly to the program. That means you won’t have to work through extra, unrelated classes to graduate!

Plus, you also get to learn with other talented, creative, like-minded students. Together you will be able to practice skills you’ll enjoy such as hairstyling, nail art, skin care treatments, and more.

Further, you aren’t stuck in the same classroom every day when you go to beauty school. At The Salon Professional Academy, you can gain hands-on experience and practice all of your skills in the student salon. This will help you brush up on customer service skills and get a taste of what working with clients will be like!

4. Set Yourself Up for a Rewarding Future

woman excited holding a sign that says open with a pair of scissorsCosmetology school prepares you to find a career path that you’ll not only excel in but also truly enjoy. There are also so many different opportunities to pursue with either a cosmetology or esthetician license.

Cosmetologists often work as hairstylists in salons, but there are other careers they can have, including:

  • Salon manager or owner
  • Hair colorist specialist
  • Stylist for events, photoshoots, theatre productions, and filming
  • Beauty product representative
  • Makeup artist

If you enroll in the esthetician program, once you earn your license you can pursue jobs such as:

  • Esthetics spa owner or manager
  • Eyelash and brow specialist
  • Medical esthetician
  • Hair removal specialist
  • Skincare specialist
  • Skincare product representative
  • Facialist
  • Beautician

The future for beauty school students is very bright – you just need to make the first step to enroll and start learning!

Ready to Start Beauty School in 2022?

If you have put off pursuing your dreams of working in the beauty industry for long enough, now is the time to make them come true. The new year is the perfect time to get started and The Salon Professional Academy of San Jose is here to help you.

We understand that while most students and staff have returned to our salon, school, and spa, due to the pandemic, some are still not comfortable returning. We take precautions to stay safe and follow protocols regarding COVID-19. For a full list of our Clean Certified Protocols, click here.

To learn more about both our cosmetology and esthetician programs, please contact us at 408-703-8757 or reach out to us online. We’d be more than happy to set up a campus tour with you and help you get started on the application process!

Thinking About a Future in Beauty? It’s Time to Get Started!

The beginning of the new year is a great time to set goals and start working towards them. Many of us like to enter the New Year focused on our resolutions and the things we hope to accomplish. For about 16% of people, their number one New Year’s goal is to change their career and find a new job. If one of your goals has been to pursue a career in beauty, then now is the time to get started!

Unlike most educational programs that begin in the fall or spring semester, you can enroll and begin training in cosmetology or esthetics at virtually any time of the year. At The Salon Professional Academy Beauty School in San Jose, CA, we have both full-time and part-time programs for cosmetology and esthetics beginning on January 10th and 11th in 2022!

If your New Year resolution is to start a career as a cosmetologist or esthetician, here are your steps to meeting your goal of working in the beauty industry:

Find a Great Cosmetology School

Your first step is to find a program at a beauty school that’s the best fit for you. There are lots of factors to consider here and you must find a beauty school that’s ideal for you. This will help you to follow through on your New Year’s resolution and complete your training!

First, make sure the school is accredited for the state you intend to work in. Every state across the country has specific requirements for cosmetology school training. Accreditation ensures that the beauty school meets the state’s standards for education so graduates are approved to take the state exam to earn their license.

This also means that you should choose to attend a school that offers an educational program that really prepares you for a future in beauty. This goes beyond just checking off the boxes of techniques you’ll be tested on.

At The Salon Professional Academy San Jose, we take the time to ensure that all of our students are truly prepared for their future. We include business and marketing training in our curriculums and have all of our students practice in the student salon. Our students are also trained by educators who have excelled in the industry and offer mentorship and advice to ensure they excel in their field.

Prepare for Cosmetology Training

Once you have found the right beauty school, the next step is to apply and prepare for your training. Cosmetology courses focus on a wide range of beauty services, including hair styling, cutting, coloring, and makeup artistry. Esthetics programs focus on the science of skincare and offer services such as facials, waxing, and microdermabrasion.

On average, cosmetology programs can be anywhere from 1000 to 1500 hours. To help fit school into your schedule, you can opt to attend part-time or nighttime classes so your training works around your other responsibilities.

Apply and Take the State Exam

Once you’ve finished your beauty training, you will have to take the state exam to earn your license. The state exam is given in two parts: a written and a practical exam.

During the written portion of the exam, you will need to answer questions about the procedures you have learned in school. Much of this focuses on sanitation and health regulations, as well as state laws. Next, you will need to complete the practical exam, where you will be observed as you complete several beauty treatments.

Once you have completed these exams, you will be notified of your score. In California, you must have a minimum score of 75%. If you have passed, you will immediately earn your state license to begin practicing!

Find a Career You Love

There are so many career options that you can pursue with a cosmetology license. Having a well-rounded education and some experience from working in a student salon will help you discover what aspects of beauty you enjoy the most.

The great thing about cosmetology is that it is a very wide-ranging industry. Perhaps the most common career path that cosmetologists follow is working as a hairstylist in a salon. They may work as an employee, as an independent stylist, or even open up their own business!

How Does Beauty School Compare to a College Experience?

If you are approaching your high school graduation or you’ve recently completed school, chances are that you’re wondering what you should do next. Many people decide to enroll in college to further their education for a specific career path. But there are other options to consider – including going to a beauty school for a cosmetology or esthetics program.

Now, you may be wondering if that’s the right decision for you for several reasons. If you’ve always dreamed of working in the beauty industry and you’ve got creative talent, it could be a great fit! But does that mean that you’ll lose out on the typical college experience?

Here’s what you need to know about going to beauty school and how to compare to attending a four-year college.

Cost Comparison

We all know that going to college is expensive. The average American college student takes on nearly $40,000 in debt through student loans! This can take years or even decades to pay off entirely, especially if you are not entering a high-paying field or position after graduation.

Now, many colleges do offer grants and scholarships that students can apply for to cut the costs down. Further, most colleges also offer financial aid to students who qualify based on aspects like their income, family income, military status, or even their grades.

The great news is that going to beauty school can be more affordable than most traditional colleges. Plus, there are financial aid* and beauty school scholarships available for both the cosmetology and esthetician programs at The Salon Professional Academy in San Jose!

Since our school is accredited by the NACCAS (National Accrediting Commission of Career Arts and Sciences), students may also apply for federal student aid* through FAFSA. This can help to make the beauty program far more affordable and leave you with far less debt after graduating from the program!

Program Length

It typically takes about four years for full-time students to earn a bachelor’s degree in college. During this time, you might not be able to hold a full-time job since you will spend a lot of time in class and studying. And if you want to go into specific careers, you may need to attend grad school after that!

Beauty school programs have mandated hourly requirements from the state – and take far less time to complete than a traditional college education. For instance, cosmetologists must complete at least 1,000 hours of training before they can apply for their license in the state of California. Full-time students can complete this entire program in about one year.

Another great reason to consider going to beauty school is the flexibility in the timeline for your program. Students can enroll in either full-time or part-time programs, which include weekend and evening classes for students with busy schedules.

Keep in mind, it will take part-time students a bit longer to complete their programs. For instance, the esthetics program in the state of California is only 600 hours. Full-time students can complete their training in just four-and-a-half months and part-time students can get it done in under 10 months.

Campus Life

Perhaps one of the greatest draws for young people to attend a typical college is campus life. You are surrounded by people your age with similar interests, and most people make life-long friends during this time in their lives.

But just because you opt to go to a beauty school instead of college doesn’t mean that you’ll have to sacrifice this experience! First, you will be learning with other students of all ages and backgrounds. Many cosmetology and esthetics students grow quite close throughout their programs. Plus, you can learn in a creative environment with students who have a love for the beauty industry.

At The Salon Professional Academy in San Jose, we strive to make sure that our students can balance learning and fun. You can learn more about student life at our school by checking out our social media feeds!

Real-World Experience

It can be hard to gain much hands-on experience in college unless you have the opportunity to join an internship. This makes it quite hard to find a job after graduation unless you find an entry-role position.

One thing that makes beauty school unique is that you can gain real-life experience as you learn! The Salon Professional Academy in San Jose has a student salon where you can work with real clients under the supervision of licensed professionals.*

Both our cosmetology and esthetician students have the chance to work in a student salon as they complete school. This means that they can practice all of the techniques they learn in the classroom in real life.

This can give you an advantage and help you find the type of job that’s the best fit for you once you earn your license. Many estheticians and cosmetologists opt to work in salons or spas, so knowing what to expect beforehand can be quite beneficial.

Over 10 Years of Excellence in Beauty School

We all know the power an amazing hairstylist can have, especially now.

A hairstylist, cosmetologist, or esthetician can help you love the way you look, whether it’s by creating a new hairstyle that frames your face perfectly or helping you keep your skin moisturized and smooth.

At The Salon Professional Academy(TSPA) San Jose, we’ve been helping future beauty professionals for over 10 years, and we wanted to look back at some reasons we’re excited to achieve #10yearsofexcellence.

We hope you’ll share your own story with us on Instagram, too! And, if you aren’t sure where you want to see yourself, here’s our recommendations on some goals for your 5 or 10 year goals.

The History of The Salon Professional Academy San Jose

Ms. V partnered with The Salon Professional Academy that is a Redken and Dermalogica Partner leading-edge franchise. Ms. V. was a professional working as a hairdresser and owner of several salons, but what she noticed is that potential hires just weren’t up to her standard.

They didn’t have the training they needed to be a successful stylist in her salons, so she often had to train those new hires herself. After decades of experience, she decided to take matters into her own hands and create a beauty school that helped students actually learn what they needed to be successful, with a huge focus on developing a curriculum that works, using salon-quality Redken products, and much more!

And, once she started this school, she didn’t take a step back.

Now, you can find Ms. V and her team of excellent educators and faculty actively supporting and helping students as the Creative Educational Director. She works with students, offers support on the clinic floor, and has a big hand in the current curriculum, because she knows how important it is to make sure students have more advanced training, so students can be prepared to keep up with the trends and create more and more complex looks.

And, we think we’ve made these past 10 years a big success! We love being able to provide our unique education and services that our students and community love, and we now have over 200 students all preparing to become licensed beauty professionals!

What Makes Our Beauty School Education Different?

With the guidance of Ms. V and her team of excellent educators and faculty, we created a school that has seen huge success over the last 10 years! A huge part has been our goal to create an environment that fosters learning and provides students with both the hard and soft skills they need to become a successful hair or beauty professional.

You simply won’t be able to get an education like what we offer elsewhere. As a student, you can:

Become a Big Part of the Community

Something unique about our school is that we are with you every step of the way. We don’t leave you on your own after admissions or even say goodbye after graduation. You can join our big network of students and alumni to help you feel confident in your skills and find your dream career!

We love keeping in touch with our alumni to see where their careers take them.

Alumni of The Salon Professional Academy San Jose

Gain the Business Skills You Need

We want our students to be prepared to be successful professionals, which is why we focus on business and marketing skills, which not every beauty school offers. Students at our school learn how to run a successful business and pay attention to the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that they can use to run a successful salon or spa.

They can get a better idea of how many clients they need each month or even each year to achieve their goals, whether they choose to work in a salon or start their own business. We want our students to feel confident and prepared to handle the business side of beauty.

Focus on a Positive Attitude and Mindfulness

As part of the service industry, it can be daunting and difficult to keep up a positive attitude each and every day! That’s why we start many of our days with yoga, mindfulness exercises, and more to ground yourself with a positive attitude and passion for doing what you love and make even the harder days a little easier.

Receive an Adaptable Education

We focused on caring for our students during an unprecedented time. We were able to implement digital and hybrid learning as necessary to keep students safe, but when we were ready to open our doors, we couldn’t believe the support we received from our regulars!

You can feel confident in your beauty school education because we did not compromise the quality of our education, even as things changed around us.

See the Success of Our Students!

You don’t have to just take our word for it, you can see where previous students from The Salon Professional Academy are now! Even after a few years, we love keeping up to see what they’ve been up to. Here are a few students from The Salon Professional Academy who have taken their skills to the next level and even opened up their own hair and beauty businesses!

Katlyn now owns two salons, named Evolve Salon at just the age of 27, with 7 years of experience in the industry. Building Your 5-Year and 10-Year Plan for Your Beauty Career

When planning your future, it’s important to set short-term and long-term goals. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? What about after 10 years? While it can be hard to look ahead, especially when times are uncertain, it’s a great time to start thinking about what you want to do with your life and career.

At The Salon Professional Academy(TSPA), San Jose we want to help you set yourself up for success! Here’s a general timeline on what to expect the first 5 years of pursuing an education in beauty and 10 years later.

Your 5-Year Goals

1. Start Getting Ready for Beauty School Now!

Beauty school can take anywhere from a few months to potentially up to two years, depending on the program and class schedule you choose. For example, the cosmetology program at The Salon Professional Academy can be completed in as little as 11 months for the full time program, but the part-time program can take at minimum 21 months.

If skincare is your passion, you can start doing what you love sooner, as our esthetics program can be completed in as little as 4.5 months for our full-time schedule or 9.5 months for our part-time schedule.

Beauty school is a big time and money investment in yourself. This means if you haven’t started considering how to fit beauty school into your budget, start taking those steps now, so you can finish school and become a licensed professional within the next five years.

As a first step, fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) to see what type of financial aid you may qualify for. Make sure to send this info to our school code: 042371. This can help us work with you to determine if there may be ways to make school more affordable, like Pell Grants or federal loans.

You can also start looking at class schedules and talking with your family or significant other on how you can balance beauty school and your current responsibilities, whether it’s handling childcare or working a part-time or full-time job.

2. Find Your Starting Career

Once you’ve finished beauty school, it’s important to get a job in the industry as soon as possible! Chances are, you won’t be able to do your dream career JUST yet.

Like any profession, it’s important to take the leap and get some experience first. Even if it’s not the perfect fit, that first career can be exciting! You can apply what you learned in school and build your own clientele at a salon or spa. Then, when it’s time to move to a different location, you can already have clients ready to meet you at your new place!

3. Build Your Portfolio

While you’re just starting out, make sure to take as many photos and videos you can of the work you create! When finding your lifelong career, you want to show employers that you’re worth it! You can (and should) be building your portfolio while you’re in beauty school, but it’s a new experience when working without the help of licensed instructors helping you perfect each look.

Some tips:

  • Build your business Instagram profile. Instagram is a great way to gain a loyal following and ultimately attract new clients to your salon or spa. Showcase exactly what someone can expect when sitting in your chair and advertise any specials or your favorite products to encourage people to come to you.
  • Ask for reviews from each of your guests. These can make or break your reputation! And, all you have to do is ask. If people loved their appointment, they won’t have a problem leaving you with some kind words. Got some feedback from a less-than-happy guest? It’s a great way to learn and grow!
  • Update your resume. As you get more and more experience, make sure to showcase some of your favorite looks and skills. If possible, find opportunities to get certified in certain specialties, like make-up!

Then, when you’ve decided you’ve gotten enough experience, it’s time to work toward your 10 year goals. Where do you see yourself? Do you like working in a salon or spa or would you rather become your own boss?

Your 10-Year Goals

Once you have a few years of experience cutting hair, applying facials, or creating stunning nail art, it’s time to start looking for the career you love! While it’s becoming more and more common to try working at different salons to find the right fit, it’s also great to find a place that you can call home in the workplace.

Find a career where you have a team that actively supports you, achieve a proper work/life balance, and pays you what you’re worth. But, some other things you should consider within 10 years are:

1. Build Your Professional Network

If you can, try to create a professional beauty network, whether it’s from peers at your time during beauty school or your coworkers at your current workplace. While many conferences, trainings, continuing education opportunities may continue to be online, you should connect with those you went to school with or your team at your salon or spa.

These connections can be a valuable asset when looking for your new workplace.

2. Become Your Own Boss

The beauty industry is full of opportunities for you to take control of your career. If you’ve been dreaming about opening up your salon, set your 10-year goal to do it! Use the hard-earned money from your starting career to save up for your own space. You might start with renting a booth at an established salon and working your way to opening your own location, but whatever you do, make sure you love what you’re doing!

3. Continue Your Education

Once you’re confident in what you’re doing, it’s time to think about going back to school or continuing your education in some way. You can potentially become certified in other services. For example, if you’re a cosmetologist, you could consider getting an esthetics license to provide more skincare related services.

To be a successful beauty professional, you should find ways to encourage your clients to keep coming back. You can do this by expanding the list of services you offer, or specializing in certain services that your guests won’t be able to get elsewhere.

Instagram Reels Tips for Beauty Pros

Ready to grow your following, increase engagement, and have fun doing it? Make Instagram Reels a part of your content strategy! On the @creators account, Instagram described Reels as a “place to watch short, fun videos, and helps your Reels get discovered by new audiences on a bigger, global stage.”

Instagram loves to reward accounts who use its features, especially newer features. In some cases, Reels has been shown to perform better in the algorithm than IGTV. So how can you take advantage of Reels to grow your account? Keep reading for some of our best tips!

What Are Instagram Reels?

First things first, what are Instagram Reels? Similar to TikTok, IG Reels are short, entertaining videos that are meant to be casual and fun. Reels can be 15-30 seconds long, can have audio, and can be shared directly or through remixing. Reels have been shown to have a longer shelf life than feed posts, sometimes being promoted in the explore feed for weeks or even a month after being originally posted.

Reels that do well tend to be funny, educational, entertaining, or relatable. This means they can be very sharable content, which is great to help your account grow! Users can share your reels through their stories, save them, or send them to their friends via direct message. Making content your users relate to and want to share is a great way to get your account noticed!

How can you create shareable content? Here are some of our best tips!

Tip 1: Add Audio

Adding audio to your Reels is an easy way to make them more dynamic and relatable. Try and use music you think your target audience will like. Is your audience trendy and young? Maybe popular music or top hits will resonate with them. Or is your audience more eclectic? Indie may be the way to go. If users land on your Reels and hear a song they love, this is an easy way to grab their attention and start attracting your tribe!

Not all accounts may have access to audio in the Reels editor on Instagram. If this is you, don’t worry! You can work around this by editing your Reels in a different app, like InShot or iMovie. Once you are done editing your video, save it to your phone. You can then directly upload your finished video to Reels!

Tip 2: Use Text

Not everyone always has their audio turned on when they are scrolling through Instagram, though, and that’s why we also recommend using text in your Reels. Text makes sure that users can engage with your content even without sound. Making your Reels as accessible as possible is always good practice.

Get creative with how you use text! Remember, Reels are all about having fun. One trend we see over and over is pointing to text bubbles, like in the Reel below. Make sure to use consistent branding by sticking to the same fonts and colors!

Tip 3: Create Cover Photos

Creating cover photos is another great way to make your Reels as easily accessible as possible. If someone is viewing your Reels on your Instagram feed, cover photos can show them what your Reels are about before clicking on them. This makes it easier for users to find the content they would find helpful or valuable.

Making the user experience as easy as possible shows your customers that you create content with them in mind! It can help your feed be a place where users want to come back and see more. You can create your cover photos in a photo editing app of your choice beforehand and upload it directly to your Reels when you go to post!

Tip 4: Make Use of Content Buckets

Are you ready to hear the good news? Not all of your content has to be specific to beauty. We know it can get tiring trying to continually come up with new ideas and new content to post! Making use of content buckets that relate to your field is a great way to come up with new content faster.

For example, you may have a few categories your content revolves around:

  • Skincare
  • About You
  • Motivational
  • Product Features

Even though this Reel is about self love, it can still fit well into your overall beauty content strategy! You could also include wellness tips, facts about you, or even your favorite local shops to eat at. It all just depends on your audience and what would be interesting to them!

Tip 5: Watch Reels To Get Ideas

Still at a loss for inspiration? Watch Reels to get some ideas of what is performing well for others or what content is trending! Our tip is to watch both Reels that are within and outside of your industry. The idea is not to copy other users’ content, but to get ideas. Sometimes it can be easier to create original content by watching what is trending outside your industry and thinking of ways to make it work in the beauty niche.

Wondering what trends we are seeing in beauty? Keep reading to see just a few trends we have noticed in our feeds.

Tutorials and how-tos are almost always popular content pieces. In this day and age, it’s all about providing information quickly, at the tap of a button, and how-tos are a great way to do this. You can showcase easy hairstyles for your followers to replicate, how to properly wash your face, or a tutorial for fun nail art!

Satisfying Videos

Satisfying videos are one reason ASMR has surged in popularity. This trend is all about creating content your users just can’t look away from. It may be super shiny hair, extensions that create a sense of awe, or brushing through tight curls to create loose waves. Peeling off a face mask, showcasing a dip manicure, or pulling foils out of hair can also be great satisfying videos!

Educational Tips and Tricks

Dos and don’ts or other educational tips and tricks also tend to perform well. Your followers want you to be an authority in your field, so be sure to teach them what you know! This kind of content is extremely helpful to your users, and if they find that your tips work, it also builds trust. If you want the kind of clients who sit down in your chair and say, “Do whatever you think is best,” start building your status as an authority by putting out educational content!

5 Ways to Practice Self Love and Self Care This Year

Are you thinking about making a big change for yourself this year? Whether you’re ready to change your career or start a new education, it’s important that you’re giving yourself time to practice self-care. Setting up a routine for your needs will help you stay motivated to go after your goals in 2021! And if you’re a beauty lover like us, chances are that your self-care practices revolve around the industry. That’s why we’ve listed out our five favorite ways you can practice self-love through beauty!

Dedicate Time for Your Interests

You deserve to set aside a portion of your day and do something that excites you. That could be anything from looking up makeup tutorials to researching career opportunities in the cosmetology world. Whatever it is, make sure that you give yourself these breaks so you don’t feel burned out by the end of each day. It will give you something to look forward to and allow you to work on skills that you feel passionate about!

Move Your Body

Even before 2020, moving your body could be hard to do with so many people having an office job. Now that so many are working from home, this tip is even more important to do. The last thing you want to do is to stay at home and not get enough exercise in your routine. It’s not good for you physically or emotionally. That’s why you should break up your day by going out for a short walk or even doing something as simple as getting a coffee. Whatever you need to get you up and moving and out of the house.

Focus on Your Skin

Skin care problems got a little more complicated in 2020 as everyone started to wear masks. We had to adjust our makeup by not applying as much in that area and going the extra mile to protect our skin from clogging up. These problems aren’t going away in 2021 which is why incorporating a skincare routine to practice self-love is still a great tip for this year. After all, having glowing and healthy skin can do amazing things for our self-confidence so it should always be a priority!

Give Yourself a Manicure or Pedicure

Need something to brighten your day? What better way to do that than by treating yourself to a spa day! Our favorite spa day treatment to do at home is a manicure or pedicure. Not only does it feel amazing to take care of your nails but it also gives you the opportunity to show off your creative side. Try out different designs and see which ones match the best. You might even find out that you like working with nails more than you thought!

Go to the Salon

Looking to get out of the house but not sure where to go? The beauty salon can be just the place you’re looking for. Getting a beauty service done is great because it lifts up your confidence with a new look and you get to talk with someone new which we’re all craving in 2021.
